Let's have a discussion on AR!
Video Brief
My chosen topic for this video is New Realities. The specific area I wanted to focus on was Augmented Reality. Recently, apps like Tiktok, Instagram, and Snapchat have been popular amongst people of all ages. Through this video, my goal is to convey the process and complications behind AR. My intended audience for this video is people who are just solely interested in AR and also those who aren’t aware of the realities of social media and owns an algorithm that constantly shows “picture-perfect” people. The topic of new realities might be scary to some people. With digital technology evolving at a rapid speed, there are new fears of losing jobs, unknown realities, and technology taking over. However, through this video, I hope the people who view my video may learn that new features of technology can actually be exciting and a new opportunity for creativity. My plan for this video is for it to be engaging and simple to understand. In order for this to happen, I’ve planned to use video overlays from Creative Commons and also videos personally created by me. In addition to this, I’ll also be using music to fill the empty noise in the background to make the video less boring. To end my video, I’m going to provide a link in my bio to direct the viewers to a video that excellently shows what people can do with Augmented Reality.
My Reflection
When thinking of what to do for this assignment, I thought of doing a video relating to Artificial Intelligence. However, through the process of writing my video brief, I decided to change my topic to Augmented Reality because I thought of an idea that could be more impactful to whoever views my video. While my main purpose was to show the process of creating filters that are shown on social media, I also wanted to show that what you see on social media isn’t always real. With filters becoming more seamless and realistic, it is hard to identify what is real or not. I myself struggle with comparing myself to other influencers and celebrities I see on the internet. Through research about the process of AR, I realize how social media can easily portray fake images. In addition to that, I started to see how creative a user can be when dealing with Augmented Reality.
Planning for this video was quite hard since I wasn’t so familiar with this area. However, watching videos from Youtube gave me a better understanding of how I should describe Augmented Reality. I wanted to convey this idea in a simple way for the audience to understand and I also wanted to bring a positive message to the video. I edited my video through an application called ‘CapCut’ and I explored the features of this application. I used overlays of images, videos, filters, and effects. I found the pictures I overlaid through a platform called ‘Creative Commons’ and found copyright-free videos through a platform called ‘Videvo’. I also couldn’t find a song for the background that I felt matched the video so I looked through Youtube to find copyright-free music. For the aesthetic of the video, I had a vision to make my overlaid videos have a calm and lazy mood since I was conveying that I was procrastinating through social media from the start of the video. To do this, I adjusted the clips through filters and also the lighting of the clips. Lowering the brightness of the clips I used gave an empty and lazy feel. From the youtube videos I watched, I emphasized the quiet feeling of just lazing around in a room by cutting off the music when it came to clips of me playing on my phone. I also added sound effects to emphasize the pictures/videos that popped up.
Through creating this video, I encountered problems with audio. At first, I recorded the video of myself speaking with my phone camera and the audio came out not as clear. So, I decided to use a mic I owned to re-record the audio. With this little change, my video sounded more professional and clear. I also had a problem with the editing as some videos weren’t as loud as others and also with overlapping clips. I had to figure out which order to put the clips in and how to incorporate pictures and videos without looking awkward. Overall, after I fixed these problems my video came out the way I wanted it to and I've learned that AR could be an outlet for creativity as technology has easily made it to be accessible to everyone.
